The Purple Tenuity Hexagram is the third and most difficult puzzle in the An Unnatural Omen questline. Compared to the earlier hexagrams, this one introduces interconnected rings that move together, which can make the solution feel confusing at first. With the right approach and a bit of patience, the puzzle becomes much easier to manage.
This guide explains how to complete the Purple Hexagram puzzle during the An Unnatural Omen quest in Where Winds Meet.
How to solve Purple Tenuity Hexagram Puzzle
Before you can solve the puzzle, you first need to unlock the entrance by aligning the ceiling and floor mechanisms.
Step 1: Align the Ceiling Panels

First, interact with the North Star Bagua Platform to rotate the ceiling panels. Keep rotating until the Vermilion Bird symbol lines up with the enclosure doors. When the alignment is correct, the symbol on the door will glow, confirming that the position is locked.
Step 2: Rotate the Floor Platform

Next, move to the floor platform. Rotate it until you find the symbol that looks like an equal sign with two short streaks above it. Once this symbol lines up correctly, the entrance will be unlocked, and you will be able to enter the hexagram chamber.

Solving the Constellation Puzzle

The constellation puzzle inside the Purple Tenuity Hexagram is significantly more complex than the previous two because the inner rings are connected—rotating one ring will cause the others to move as well.
Step 1: Lock the Outermost Ring

Start with the outermost ring first because it operates independently and won’t be affected by inner ring rotations. Once the outer ring is properly aligned, you can work on the remaining layers.
Step 2: Rotate the Inner Rings

Work on the inner rings by rotating the inner ring clockwise and the outer ring counterclockwise. This opposite rotation helps counterbalance the connected rings. You may need to adjust slightly more or overshoot the connection point before the layers lock into position.
Step 3: Lock-In Confirmation
As with the other hexagram puzzles, listen for a clicking sound when each ring or section locks into its correct position. This auditory feedback helps confirm you’re on the right track.

After Solving the Puzzle
Once the constellation puzzle is completed, a memory scene will play. You will be given a choice between “Kill” or “Spare”, which only affects dialogue and does not alter the quest outcome.
After the memory ends, you will receive the North Star Orb: Purple Star. Open the nearby chest for additional rewards, then return to Jin Zhongyuan to hand over the orb and progress in An Unnatural Omen quest.
