Primordial Nightmare, also known as “The Creator,” is one of the toughest bosses in Zenless Zone Zero, introduced in Season 2, Chapter 6. This mechanically challenging encounter tests both skill and strategy, requiring precise timing and smart use of burst windows. This guide will show you how to defeat Primordial Nightmare and exploit its weaknesses.
How to Beat Primordial Nightmare in Zenless Zone Zero

Primordial Nightmare cycles between two main phases: the Control Skill (Brand of Miasmic Ruin) and the Miasmic Shield phase.
Control Skill
The Control Skill is Primordial Nightmare’s signature attack, forcing you to land four defensive assists in a row. There are no flash indicators, so you’ll need to watch the boss’s animations and rely on timing.

Think of the timing like this: Assist → Assist → Assist → pause → Assist. Practicing it makes the counters much easier to handle.
Ultimates are disabled, only one agent switch is allowed per attack, and each agent can dodge once. You don’t have to wait for an animation—fight normally and trigger the sequence at the last second.
Miasmic Shield
When Primordial Nightmare activates its Miasmic Shield, its defenses get a major boost. The boss gains about 80% more DEF, 25% extra damage resistance, and becomes immune to stuns while attacking more aggressively.
To handle the shield, focus on shield-reducing abilities like Ultimates, defensive assists, or dodge counters. Once the shield is broken, the boss enters a Daze state, creating a window for high-damage combos. After accumulating a certain amount of Daze, the Miasmic Shield can return, repeating the cycle.
Primordial Nightmare Weaknesses
- Vulnerable to Honed Edge or high physical damage for faster shield reduction
- Precise parry execution is essential during Control Skill phases
- Daze windows offer opportunities for burst damage
Tip: Focus on rhythm for Control Skill, time your high-impact abilities during shield breaks, and let your main DPS carry through sustained damage phases.
And that’s the guide—strategy, careful use of burst damage, and consistent offense are your keys to defeating Primordial Nightmare in Zenless Zone Zero.
