Alcoholism in My Winter Car can feel like a permanent problem. Once your character starts drinking too much, the problem bar becomes a constant headache, and waiting it out barely makes a difference. For a lot of players, it seems like there’s no real way to recover without restarting the game. But the truth is, the game’s stat system behaves in a strange way that actually lets you fix the issue completely.
This guide explains how the system really works and how to permanently get rid of alcoholism in My Winter Car.
How the Alcohol System Works
The game uses a hidden stat called Player Alkalism. At the start of a new game, this value is set to 150, and to fully remove alcoholism, it must be reduced to 0 or below. Under normal conditions, the game lowers this stat at an extremely slow rate of 0.01 per tick, which makes natural recovery almost impossible.
There is also the Problem bar, which ranges from 0 to 200.
- Above 100, the bar turns red
- Above 200, the player dies
However, when the Problem bar climbs to around 180–185, the sobering process suddenly speeds up.
The Save & Reload Safety Net (The Exploit)
When hunger, stress, thirst, or a problem goes above 180, the game activates a safety feature:
- If you save and reload, the game does not kill you
- Instead, it resets the stat to 181.3
This reset happens every time you load, and that’s exactly what we abuse to rapidly reduce Player Alkalism.
How to Get Rid of Alcoholism in My Winter Car

To start, you need to turn the Problem bar red by raising the problem stat above 100.
An easy way to do this is by running into a wall, punching it repeatedly, holding Shift and W, and spamming H once the bar turns red.
Keep doing this for about 80 seconds until the problem stat goes above 180. Once it does, save the game and reload immediately, which will reset the problem stat to 181.3.
How Waiting Helps Reduce Alcoholism
By standing still and reloading at the right time, you can lower your alcoholism stat safely.
Cycle 1
Stand completely still and wait about 7 minutes, letting the problem stat slowly climb close to 200, then save and reload. This drops Player Alkalism from 150 to around 97.
Cycle 2
Stand still again, wait another 7 minutes, and save and reload. This drops Player Alkalism from 97 to about 45.
Cycle 3
Repeat the same process for a third cycle, waiting roughly 7 minutes and reloading. Player Alkalism drops from 45 to -7, and at this point, alcoholism is completely gone.
Final Cycle
Once the stat is below zero, the problem bar behaves like normal thirst. You can safely save the game, drink water to check that it worked, and play without the constant alcohol penalty. The total time for the entire process is about 28 minutes.
This method works because the game’s safety system accidentally helps you. By keeping the problem bar high and using save-and-reload cycles, you can sober up much faster than the game normally allows.
And that’s it! By following this method, you can completely remove alcoholism, turn the problem bar back into normal thirst, and enjoy playing without the constant alcohol penalty.
